An International Music Affair

An International Music Affair

8am 18th Oct 2018, a cinematically beautiful Californian morning bursting with sunshine, blue skies and high hopes. My dear friend Matt and I are on route to the epic Vasquez Rocks to meet the dynamic creative force AKA Tequila Mockingbird Productions led by Thresa, my dear talented and most generous heart friend since... 1990. What lay ahead was an unforgettable creative day of endless summer fun!

We were on a mission to create the video for my newest song release ‘1990’ – the true story my adventures during the summer of ’90.  These adventures took me from ocean to desert to city not to mention a deep journey of self discovery. Thresa was one of the amazing people I was lucky enough to meet back then, little did we know that forward-wind 28 years and we would be travelling to so many spectacular locations re-imagining this tale into a stunning music video.

Tequila Mockingbird Productions (TMP) are a bunch of exceptionally talented people and what we achieved in one day was way beyond my expectation. In the run up to shoot day, Thresa had held several brain storming meetings with her team for the treatment of ‘1990’ video plus she and I had transatlantic feedback sessions (FYI I live in London, UK – so the prospect of travelling back to Cali and making this video already held major levels of excitement). I was returning to LA on route back to UK and things fell into place in a rather spooky and wondrous fashion.

Thresa had meticulously carved out a shooting schedule that beautifully mirrored the imagery of my lyrics and the vibe of the song. Vasquez Rocks was an extraordinary starting point and I realised I was walking in the dusty desert foot prints of many legends from Captain Kirk to Bill and Ted! The TMP team were so professional at every step – finding beautiful angles and framings. I felt like a movie star!

The energy throughout the day was perfectly pitched – the team are so warm, friendly and focused. TMP’s shooting schedule deftly took us to about four incredible locations as well as a totally cool and off-beat road side bistro for lunch.  We travelled from desert rocks and Joshua Trees to dusty roads and lemon groves finally ending up on Carpentaria Beach for a text book Californian sunset! Mother Nature delivered in a way we could only dream of.

I am so grateful for the talent, time, planning and enthusiasm that TMP delivered in earnest throughout. We ended up with a beautifully shot music video that truly brought to life my song. If you ever get a chance to work with this team, grab the opportunity with every ounce of your being. There were so many ‘WOW’ moments! Thank you to Thresa and all involved from the bottom of my heart!
